FBS TEST

This test is done in order to measure the amount of glucose in blood. FBS is primarily ordered by doctors to look for prediabetes, diabetes or gestational diabetes.

It is of high importance not to eat or drink anything at least for 8 hours before the test.

Diagnosis:

A normal level (for a random blood glucose test) is usually under 125 milligram per deciliter (mg/dL), however, in fasting blood glucose test, a normal level is between 70 to 100 mg/dL

In a fasting blood glucose test, the following results are abnormal and indicate prediabetes or diabetes:

  •          A blood glucose level of 100–125 mg/dL shows prediabetes.
  •          A blood glucose level of 126 mg/dL and higher indicates diabetes.

In a random blood glucose test, these results are abnormal and indicate prediabetes or diabetes:

  •          A blood glucose level of 140–199 mg/dL indicates prediabetes.
  •          A blood glucose level of 200 mg/dL and higher shows that the person likely has diabetes.
